Green leader in Jedburgh for BBC windfarm debate

BBC Scotland’s Riddoch’s Questions is coming to Jedburgh on Tuesday (October 14) with a panel discussion on wind power including SPG Co-Convenor, Patrick Harvie MSP.

Other speakers include Duncan McLaren (Friends of the Earth), Dr Sian McGrath (Aqua Marine Energy), and Professor Jane Bower.

The event will be chaired by Lesley Riddoch and is part of the acclaimed Scotsman Debates series. There will be a full report on the windfarm debate in The Scotsman on Thursday 16th October.

The debate starts at 7pm in Jedburgh Town Hall. Tickets are available from the Scotsman: scotsmandebates@scotsman.com

Peebles Agricultural Show

Last weekend saw Greens from all corners of the Borders converging on Peebles for the Peeblesshire Agricultural Show. It was our first time, so we didn’t know what to expect – certainly not such a huge show! 72 trade stalls alone, and the Galloway Cattle National Show in particular making a fine display. Congratulations to our friends at Whitmuir Organics, who won the best trade stand prize. Suspect we weren’t in the running, but at least it was a great chance to talk to visitors – planning apps, wind farms and food prices were high on the agenda. Borders Green Festival

Sunday morning found Borders Greens nipping just across the border to the annual Borders Green Festival. It’s the fourth festival of its kind to run in Berwick, and now attracts some 3,000 people for a day of live music, stalls and crafts with a green theme, not to mention locally produced food. Sadly we were too late to sample the wildly popular Pan Haggerty, but we did manage to catch up with friends from Borders Organic Gardeners and help Paul wrestle his geodesic dome into shape. Special mention also to the the solar powered cinema, and the heroic (and very fit) guy who was pedal-powering the sound system on the small music stage with a bicycle generator. All in all, a good chance to meet greens on both sides of the border.
